Click hereBorn on the 15th of November 1968, Miguel Saraiva concluded his studies in architecture at the Universidade Lusíada, Lisbon, in 1995. In 1996 he founded the studio, today known as Saraiva + Associados, which has experienced a rapid process of expansion. Miguel Saraiva was the mentor and continues to be the driving force of this dynamic team, personally getting involved in all projects and the group’s strategy and processes of globalisation.
Alongside his intense activity in the company, Miguel Saraiva was vice-president of the Southern Regional Section of the Ordem dos Arquitetos (Portuguese Architects Association), in the three-year period 1998-2001. Among other awards and honourable mentions in the field of architecture, in 2011, on behalf of Saraiva + Associados, he received the prize for Best Architecture Studio awarded by the Portuguese magazine Construir. In 2013, the same publication awarded him the prizes for Best Private Project 2013, Best Studio 2013 and Architecture Personality of the Year 2013. In 2015, he was given the award for Career Distinction by the SIL (Portugal Real Estate Exhibition).
Miguel Saraiva is frequently invited to participate as a speaker in seminars, master classes and symposiums at architecture schools in various countries, as well as in workshops and debates about economy and globalisation.
Born in Lisbon on the 19th of June 1970, Luís Barros concluded his architecture degree at the Faculty of Architecture of Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, in 1994. Between 1991 and 1997 he specialised in programming, advanced CAD and BIM, completing with great success various courses in these fields. Between 1992 and 1994 he did an apprenticeship at an architecture studio and in 1994 he began his professional practice as a qualified architect. After spending some time in Macau, where he collaborated on a range of local and international projects, he joined S+A in 2000. Since then, he has been involved in the company’s projects as an architect, with a particular focus in the field of hospitals and planning, while also defining and implementing the group’s information systems. In 2006 he became an associate director at S+A and is now the Chief Operating Officer.
Born in Lisbon on the 14th of January 1978, Bruno Pereira completed his architecture degree at the Universidade Lusíada, in Lisbon, in 2002. In 2000, he began his career at Saraiva + Associados as an apprentice, becoming part of the team as an architect in 2002. His architectural production is characterised by the programmatic and dimensional variety of his projects in the fields of architecture and urbanism. In 2008, he went on to coordinate numerous projects as team leader and, in 2011, he became an associate director of S+A.
Born on 18 February 1982 in Cascais, Inês Moura completed her degree in Architecture at Lisbon’s Faculdade Lusíada and Milan Polytechnic in 2005. She then began her professional career as an architect and interior designer in several renowned studios, and in 2015 she joined the creative team at Time Out Market in Lisbon. The experience gained both nationally and internationally gives way, in 2017, to the creation of her Atelier – Inês Moura Arquitectura & Design, where she develops a continuous work in different areas ranging from architecture to interior design, through furniture design or curating objects and works of art. With an attentive look, based on a constant research, he creates projects with a markedly personal touch that make clear the dialogue between past and future, permanent and ephemeral, where the concept of beauty is inseparable from aesthetics as a philosophical discipline. Betting on working the detail and its subtleties, he finds in the limited space his preferred territory, not without first dedicating to it his interpretation as an architect to culminate in the construction of a final result that mirrors well his markedly scenographic vision.
Born in Lisbon in 1957, Henrique Cayatte is a designer, illustrator, professor and design consultant. He was a consultant for the special design projects for EXPO ‘98 and he developed its integrated signing and communication system. In 1999, he was awarded the National Design Prize for this global project. Later on, he was responsible for the conception and design of the Pavilion of Portugal – EXPO 2000, in Germany, and for the Pavilion of Portugal – EXPO 2005 in Aichi, Japan. Since 2004 he has been a guest professor at the University of Aveiro. He was commissioner-general and author of the general design of the exhibition 1990-2004 | Architecture and Design in Portugal, at the Milan Triennale. From 2004 to 2012, he was the president of the Portuguese Centre of Design and, since 2007, has been a board member of the Ibero-American Design Biennial.
From 2008 to 2014 he was a member of the executive board of BEDA (Bureau of European Design Associations) and, in 2006, was in charge of designing the Portuguese electronic passport and identification card. In 2016, he joined the S+A group and became founding partner of S+A Concept Design, which links design with architecture and the public space.
Born on the 13th of October 1967 in São Paulo, Brazil, Marcelo Montoro completed his architecture and urbanism degree at the Catholic University of Santos in 1991. In 1998 he developed a range of projects for a leading Brazilian company in the field of architecture. He won first place in an ideas contest with a project for the historic centre of São Paulo. He developed and participated in significant projects for the city, such as the Praça da República’s underground car park and CPTM (São Paulo Metropolitan Trains Company) train stations. He also participated in studies for the metro of Lima, Peru. In July 2010 he joined S+A group and became founding partner of S+A Brazil.
Born in 1979, in Lisbon, Sérgio graduated in Architecture from Lusíada University in 2004, and is a LEED Accredited Professional currently taking a PhD in Social Sustainability and Development. He has developed the architecture practice in Portugal until 2011, having started his international career first in Vietnam, then in Algeria, Hong Kong and Macao, enrolling directly in projects related to urban planning, hotels and resorts, health, retail, entertainment and science parks. In 2019 he becomes a founding partner of S+A Vietnam.
Born in 1953 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, João Francisco Caires made Funchal, Madeira, his residence, after which he became a Portuguese national. In 1976 he graduated in architecture from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. He completed a specialised course in urban and regional studies in 1977. Since then he has established his own studios in Funchal and Lisbon and has developed joint projects with internationally renowned architects. In his studio he was the chief architect and coordinator, specialising in projects for collective housing, public facilities, urban planning and hotels. In 2011, in the context of S+A’s process of international expansion, he joined the team as a senior partner.
Jorge Catarino has divided and developed his professional activity in private and public entities, in the scope of architecture, urban planning and urban management, having been, for the last 12 years, head of the Lisbon City Hall in the area of urbanism. He was a member of different juries of architectural competitions and awards, namely the Valmor Prize.
Born in Lisbon on the 30th of April 1965, has several degrees in Architecture, Environmental Planning, and Project Evaluation and Management. For the past 15 years, he was Development Director of a real estate investment company, where he was responsible for programming and developing touristic projects. He is also Auditor of the Portuguese sustainable construction certification scheme, LIDER.A. In 2018, he established PRS Arquitectos, part of the S+A group.
Born in Belgrade, Serbia, on the 16th of October, in 1987, obtained a master’s degree in architecture and urban planning from the University of Belgrade in 2011. That same year he collaborated in a symposium at ETH Zurich University. By 2013, Sava moved to Nur Sultan, where he was responsible for several projects across Kazakhstan. Since the beginning of 2018, he has carried out the role of country manager in Kazakhstan, for his former company, and in 2019 joins S+A as country manager for the same country.
Born in 1982 in Bogotá, Colombia, Andres Cerón graduated with a degree in architecture from the Universidad de los Andes, Colombia, in 2005 and, later in 2008, completed a master’s in housing of the 21st century at the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona, Spain. Between 2005 and 2013, he worked in two important architecture studios, where he had the opportunity to develop very diverse projects. In 2013 Andres Cerón joined the S+A group, in Colombia. Motivated in particular by social housing projects, his priority is the relationship between the project and the final client. With an architectural production characterised by the dimensional variety of his projects in the areas of housing, offices and retail, he currently coordinates S+A Colombia, as partner.
Born on the 12th of January 1976, Paulo de Sousa completed his degree in architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of Universidade Moderna de Lisboa, in 2000. He was then invited to develop a doctoral thesis at the IUACC (Institute of Architecture and Building Science) in Seville. That same year he began to work at an architecture studio between Lisbon and Macau, and collaborated with Hong Kong University Faculty of Architecture. In 2007 he joined S+A where, since then, he has been an architect for company projects, specialising in the area of office buildings. After previously focussing on the West African market, he is now the S+A group’s regional coordinator for European markets.
